The Proton community has relied on Proton Pass to manage not just your passwords, but an everything manager. We’ve used your feedback to make Proton Pass as customizable and secure as possible so you can use it to manage everything. We’re also focusing on new features for our Proton Pass for Business users to ensure you can enhance security and streamline your workflows.

Today, we’re sharing our development plans for the summer, as well as recapping our biggest releases from the spring.

What we launched in spring

This spring, we progressed though our roadmap, focusing on what matters most to you — adding flexible, powerful features that respond to your requests.

Keep all your information in reach with file attachments

The view of file attachments in Pass apps

In today’s online world, you need to keep track of more than just passwords. PDFs, screenshots, photographs, and text files are all part of your day-to-day life. With file attachments, you can save files with any item in your Proton Pass vaults: you have 10GB of storage to save all the files you need. Instead of using multiple tools to store different types of information or losing essential files on your phone, you can now store everything you need in Proton Pass.

Make organizing your digital life easier with custom items

We’ve made Proton Pass more than a password manager: It’s an everything manager. You can use it to securely store any type of personal information with new item templates and customizable item creation.

Your digital life and all of your sensitive data can be stored and managed within Proton Pass, no matter what format it takes. Whether it’s a WiFi network or a medical record, an SSH key or a recovery phrase, you can store and find it easily.

Strengthen team security with reporting in Proton Pass for Business

If you manage a team in Proton Pass for Business, you can now easily create an overview for activity within your team and compliance with your business password standards using our comprehensive reporting.

The Pass Monitor Report helps you strengthen your organization’s security by identifying weak or reused passwords, inactive 2FA, email breaches, and more. The Usage Report gives you insight into how your team uses Proton Pass by showing you the vaults and items each team member owns and the ones they can access.

Now, you can proactively identify and address risks before they lead to breaches, reducing manual work while improving your security.

What’s coming this summer

You’ve asked for more customization and organization capabilities in Proton Pass, so this will be our focus, while also working on keeping your data secure and accessible. While we still have some features from our spring roadmap that are pending, we’re optimistic we can deliver them this summer along with new features listed below.

Command-line interface (CLI)

Proton Pass CLI will let you access you access your credentials even faster and more securely using terminal environments, an invaluable tool for developers and technical teams. You’ll be able to script and automate access to items during development, securely create and update items, and retrieve credentials directly from the terminal. This makes it easy to integrate Proton Pass into development workflows, including scripts and CI/CD pipelines. With the CLI, you’ll be able to customize and automate Pass to work exactly the way you want.

Continuing improvements

Following your feedback, we’ll make it easier for you to log in to Proton Pass, expand autofill capabilities, and enhance data security.

Usability improvements

  • Improved autofill: Autofill will work more reliably on websites that use non-standard login methods — including banking portals, Apple ID, and Reddit. We’ll also introduce support for basic authentication pop-ups and custom field autofill.
  • Credit card autofill: Soon, Proton Pass will support secure autofill for credit card details. This will let you speed up checking out when you shop and book appointments or flights online while keeping your payment info encrypted and protected.
  • Desktop auto-type: You’ll be able to autofill credentials in native desktop apps with auto-type — helping you find the logins you need faster, no matter what app you use.

Security improvements

  • Emergency access: In the event that you need to grant access to the data in your vaults to a friend or family member, you’ll be able to grant emergency access to trusted contacts.
  • Biometric unlock in browser: Unlock Proton Pass in your browser using your fingerprint or face ID. Biometric unlock is already available for all other platforms.
  • Clipboard auto-clear: We’re making clipboard auto-clear available for web app and browser extension as it’s currently only available on mobile app and desktop app. Passwords and other sensitive fields copied from Proton Pass will be automatically cleared from your clipboard after a short delay, reducing the risk of accidental exposure.
